Dental Crowns: What are They?
Crowns are, exactly as the name implies, like a cap for your teeth. They sit on top of your tooth and are cemented in place. While they can be made from metal, resins or porcelain products, they all have one goal in mind: protecting your tooth. After a filling or root canal procedure, or just through normal wear, a tooth can become weak, especially at the top where most contact is made with food. No matter what has caused your tooth to become weakened, a crown can secure it and make it strong for years to come.
What is a Dental Bridge?
While a crown seeks to address a weakened tooth, a bridge is meant to “bridge” the gap between teeth. When you are missing one or more teeth, it detracts from your ability to chew. On top of the functional side of things, missing teeth can also be unsightly, causing your smile to be uneven or even your cheeks to become sunken. With a dental bridge, we can put crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap and have artificial teeth that go between them to fill in the gap. For a better smile and eating experience, dental bridges are a no brainer.
